“I Zimbra” by The Talking Heads

I just found out that this song (one of my favourites) is actually an adaptation of the poem “Gadji beri bimba” by Dadaist Hugo Ball

Gadji beri bimba clandridi
Lauli lonni cadori gadjam
A bim beri glassala glandride
E glassala tuffm I zimbra

And here I was, singing the nonsensical lyrics under the impression that I was butchering actual words that I never listen to (as is the case with pretty much every other song). I still have issues accepting that the 1999 song “I Try” by one-hit-wonder Macy Gray says “My world crumbles when you are not here”, and not “I wear goggles with your underwear”.
